Volkher Onuseit heads the new department of „System Engineering“

January 10, 2016 /

The IFSW has extended its structure with the two traditional departments “Process Development” and “Laser Development and Laser Optics” by a new unit on “System Engineering”. The institute therewith takes into account the latest developments in the field of the laser sources and the significant advances in the understanding of the processing fundamentals. These progresses lead to the conclusion that new approaches are needed in system technology in order to be able to exploit the foreseeable laser powers according to the latest findings in materials processing. To open up new fields of applications, laser-based machines will have to become about 100 times faster and 10 times more precise, with all the corresponding implications on beam control, integration, safety, measurement, and control engineering. The new department “System Engineering” is headed by Dipl.-Ing. Volkher Onuseit, who studied mechanical engineering at the University of Stuttgart. After two years of industrial experience in the field of reliability and endurance Volkher Onuseit gathered longtime research experience at the IFSW covering the whole range of laser-based materials processing.
