First demonstration of Ti:sapphire thin-disk oscillator

Within the EU-funded project TiSa TD (www.tisa-td.eu) the IFSW has demonstrated a Ti:sapphire thin-disk oscillator for the first time. The laser crystal with a thickness of 260 µm was pumped with a frequency-doubled fiber laser emitting at 532 nm and with 48 pump light passes. In multimode operation an optical efficiency of 11% was measured at an output power of 7.2W. In these experiment standard water cooling at a temperature of about 18°C was used.
