New Thin-Disk Laser Record: 815 W, M2 < 1.4

October 28, 2012

An almost diffraction-limited (M2 < 1.4) output power of 815 W was extracted from a Yb:YAG thin-disk laser with one single crystal in the resonator by compensating for the thermally induced aspherical wave front distortions with a deformable resonator mirror. The beam propagation factor was better than M2 = 1.6 across the whole power range. This is the highest fundamental-mode thin-disk laser power demonstrated to date with a single disk in the resonator.
