On 18 September 2017 the long-awaited bicycle boxes were finally positioned behind the building Pfaffenwaldring 43. These are double-decker boxes, which not only protect the bikes from theft and vandalism, but also from the weather conditions.

With the support of the department „Dezernat VI (Technik und Bauten)“ the Institut fuer Strahlwerkzeuge has purchased the boxes at its own expense in order to provide employees with a safe storage area for their bikes.

The bike boxes have been accepted with great enthusiasm by the staff members. For example, 7 of the 12 boxes have already been reserved for permanent users who come to work by bike also in winter. The remaining 5 boxes are available for short-term bicycle users.

The conclusion after two months is that the boxes are very well accepted and used intensively. They also promote the use of bicycles as environmentally clean vehicles, support the health of employees, relieve the parking situation at the campus and protect the property of employees from damage and weather.

Furthermore, the past few months have shown us that the acceptance and sensible use of bicycle boxes is possible. We would like to thank the department „Dezernat VI (Technik und Bauten)“ as well as the building authority „Universitätsbauamt (UBA)“ for their active support for this project. In particular, we would like to thank Mr. Sidon, who helped us in many ways with his advice and support.

We hope that this example of successful cooperation between the individual institutions will soon be followed by others, and that further bike boxes will soon find a place on the university campus. For the sake of the institutes, the employees and the environment!
