First dielectric Thin-Disk Laser With Direct Emission in the Visible Spectral Range

February 28, 2014

In cooperation with the Institut für Laserphysik of the University of Hamburg the IFSW has realized a Pr3+,Mg2+:SrAl12O19 (Pr:STRALO) thin-disk laser emitting at a wavelength of  643,5 nm. To the best of our knowledge this is the first ever realization of a thin-disk lasers that directly emits in the visible spectral range (without non-linear frequency conversion). The thin-disk laser was pumped at a wavelength of 444 nm by InGaN diode lasers. For this purpose the pumping module which is commercially provided as a standard product from the IFSW was adapted to provide 48 passes of the pump beam through the Pr:STRALO disk.
