Extended model for hot crack formation wins the ICALEO Student Paper Award Contest

October 1, 2012

The new criterion for the hot crack formation during welding especially in edge proximity developed by Peter Stritt within the framework of his PhD thesis at the GSaME has been chosen for the 1st Place of the Student Paper Award of this year's ICALEO. As an extension of the previous models it was shown that in addition to the multidirectional solidification state and local strain the nearby stress distribution is also an important criterion for the occurrence of hot cracking.
