The association of the former doctoral candidates (VEDIS) of the Institut für Strahlwerkzeuge (IFSW) has awarded this year’s price for the best master thesis to Mr. Yassin Nasr. The topic of his master's thesis is: “Development of an optical system for the high-precision and fast movement of laser beams for laser micromachining with lenses of high numerical aperture”.
The ability to focus laser beams with the highest precision (in the µm range), shape them dynamically, and move them at high speed is essential for cutting-edge technologies such as two-photon polymerization or direct laser writing of photonic circuits.
The aim of the work was to develop a complete system that can realize this high-precision focusing, dynamic shaping and rapid movement of laser beams.
Mr. Nasr was able to successfully implement such a system, covering the entire range from system design and experimental validation to system integration. With the integration of a spatial light modulator (SLM) for beam shaping, a scanner for beam movement, and a microscope objective with a high numerical aperture (NA = 0.4), Mr. Nasr was able to develop and successfully implement a highly innovative approach.
We congratulate Mr. Nasr on winning this year's VEDIS Master Thesis Award!
