Review SLT 2018

Best conditions for knowledge transfer around laser technology

Stuttgart Laser Technology Forum 2018, 05 - 06 Juni 2018

With the 10th Stuttgart Laser Technology Forum (SLT 2018) the Institut für Strahlwerkzeuge (IFSW) of the University of Stuttgart and the Stuttgart Exhibition Centre have once more created a great platform for effective knowledge transfer. The SLT 2018 took place at the International Congress Center Stuttgart (ICS) from 05 until 06 June 2018 in conjunction with the Trade Fair for Laser Material Processing (LASYS) at the Trade Fair Centre Stuttgart (Airport).

The SLT is an international, scientific conference that takes place every two years and always presents current research results and future trends. The conference with a total of 45 lectures covered topics from micro- to macro-processing together with the required laser sources and beam delivery systems. It is organized by the Institut für Strahlwerkzeuge (IFSW) of the University of Stuttgart and always takes place in conjunction with the LASYS.

The relaxed time schedule together with the pleasant surroundings of the LASYS fair once again provided the conference topics with a suitable framework for active and successful networking. An evening event following the first day of the SLT 2018 provided further opportunities for exchange, including a guided tour through the laboratories directly at the IFSW.

Many representatives of research, development and industry took part in the conference. The presentations were held in English and German, with simultaneos translation. On 5 June Dr. Berthold Schmidt, TRUMPF Lasertechnik, Ditzingen, talked about „The future of industrial laser applications“. Prof. Karsten Danzmann, Max Planck Institut für Gravitationsphysik, Hannover, did a presentation on „Gravitational wave astronomy: we can hear the universe!“ Highlights on 6 June were a talk by Prof. Thomas Graf, Institut für Strahlwerkzeuge of the University of Stuttgart, about „Laser: the ideal universal tool for industry 4.0“, Prof. Thomas Tschentscher, European XFEL, Schenefeld, about “The european XFEL - lasing from free electrons at any wavelength” and Prof. Jörg Wrachtrup, 3rd Institute of Physics of the University of Stuttgart, about “Quantum technology for the real world”.

In the participant survey, the SLT received an excellent certificate. You can download the results here:
