SLT 2014 Review
Successful Stuttgart Laser Technology Forum, SLT 2014
Stuttgart, Germany 24 - 25 June 2014
For the eighth time, the Stuttgart Technology Forum provided an exciting and profound insight into the world of industrial laser materials processing. After a short welcome by Dr. Schwanitz from the ministry of science of Baden-Württemberg, the latest developments in laser sources, beam shaping and optical systems were addressed in parallel sessions with actual processing topics such as welding of dissimilar materials, cutting of glass, and high-quality processing of CFRP. The distinguished plenary speakers Dr. Leibinger, Prof. Graf, and Prof. Bauernhansl offered a look into the future of the laser market, laser sources and application centers, respectively.
The measurement of the proton radius presented by Dr. Pohl gave an insight into a very fundamental laser application. His experimental setup is based on a novel laser configuration that was developed by the IFSW and recently led to the realization of a picosecond laser with 1.4 kW of average power. This laser source was also presented at the wellattended lab tour and evening reception at the IFSW which perfectly allowed the combination of scientific discussions and relaxed networking.
The total number of 460 visitors per day is a slight increase compared to 2012. But most importantly the superior quote of 94 % of the visitors rating the SLT as “very good” or “good” confirms the SLT policy to provide deeper insight into the various topics with contributions of a large variety of German Universities and Institutes.
In the participant survey, the SLT received a very good certificate. You can download the results here:
