Supermicrofibers Produced with Laser-Drilled Spinnerets at the Hannover Fair 2014

April 28, 2014

The innovation on direct spinning of supermicrofibers with laser-drilled spinnerets presented by the IFSW and the ITCF Denkendorf together with the Badend-Württemberg Stiftung and the TLB GmbH on the collective booth of Baden-Württemberg International (bw-i) at the Hannover Fair this year attracted major attention.

With the joint efforts of IFSW and ITCF in the framework of the research program “Environmental Technologies” of the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung it was possible for the first time to produce laser drilled spinnerets consisting of micro holes with 25 µm of diameter. These allow to directly spin supermicrofibers with a titer of <0,2 dtex (0,2 g per 10 km). The direct spinning method is a significant environmental progress and allows producing woven and knitted textiles of supermicrofibers. Such textiles are especially effective in the field of industrial dedusting, gas clean-up, and product recovery.
